Just finished the episode Pretty Much Dead Already, my favorite from the whole series.

I hated Shane, and I think John Bernthal is a pretty terrible actor as well. I caught some of the S1 episode where they first got to the CDC yesterday and remembered how bad he used to be.
Also crazy going back and seeing S1 and seeing how the vast majority of that cast is long dead and gone.

We were supposed to hate Shane.. I think Bernthal did a pretty good job at portraying the character.

No, I completely get that, and agree obviously. I'm just saying that the character itself wasn't very good IMO, nor was it acted well.

Wow, Daryl sure looks different in the early seasons. Kinda resembled a butch lesbian to me.

The wife and I are working our way through the series on Netflix. We are S3E9, so please no spoilers past this point.
I found a very hard time early connecting with any of the characters. And I still do for the most part. Rick sucks. His wife sucked. Shane sucked. Rick's boy sucks. The blonde banging the Governor sucks. The bald head scalawag sucks.
I don't mind Darryl but he just took off with Merle, who sucks. Michonne is probably the only one I am rooting for now.
I got pulled in to the series for the first time at the farm. I started to connect with Glenn and Maggie, neither of whom suck. I like the old man doc. But I enjoyed when they were there. They are at the prison now and it is starting to pick up again when they raided Woodbury.
Am I alone in my thoughts? As I mentioned earlier, please no spoilers past S3E9.

I can only advise you to avoid any Walking Dead threads. You might also want to stay away from all social media until you catch up.

You sound very hard to please when it comes to TV and movies.
I understand the hate for some characters such as Coral, Lori and Andrea but you don't like Rick? Merle? Rick is our main protagonist, damn dude.
And Merle is a rebellious, shite talking redneck. Stick with Merle though, it gets interesting for him. Same for Andrea to a degree as well.

Couldn't be any more the opposite. I don't watch any shows and critique, with this one for whatever reason it was just hard for me to connect with some of these cats. Something about the way Rick delivers his lines wears me out. And as someone mentioned earlier I couldn't stand Shane earlier for similar reasons. Rick is starting to get a little more badass not taking any shite.
And dude, trust me, I am no Siskel or Ebert, I am actually very easy to please (liked True Blood, OitNB, some other shows as well that are cheesy) for whatever reason this has just been hard to connect to.

I am treading very lightly in this thread. I do not like to start a thread and say "Hey, look at me, I am watching the Walking Dead and here my thoughts" so I saw this as a good opportunity since it is going through all seasons. But, yeah, I google nothing Walking Dead and have no social media. TD is my social media.
To anyone, what season is this on? I think Netflix has through Season 5. Is season 6 about to start?
Also, I noticed that seasons 3-5 are 16 episode seasons. Did they pull a Breaking Bad and go 8 and 8?

2nd half of season 6 starts Sunday.
Yes on Netflix it goes through 5 seasons. Just DVR season 6. Repeats of those episodes should come on by Friday or Saturday.

Not really. I didn't find many characters particularly likeable, although I did like some.
It's hard to not like Rick. Carol is another one who isn't too bad. There are some other characters I won't mention because I'm not exactly sure where they fall in regards to where you are in S3, but some of them are okay and some of them suck. But I'm with you on most of the characters you named outside of Rick (although I'm not a huge Michonne fan).
I've always dug the show, but I will say that it lags in certain spots. However, one of the lag spots is the farm, and you liked that part. So it should be pretty solid for you. And despite what some cool people like to say, the last season or two have been pretty fricking awesome.

I've been a Maggie fan from her first appearance at the farm, but, without caring if this is a spoilers or not, her two topless but not actually showing anything scenes were outstanding in their own rights. Had I been one of the characters in either scene, I might have messed up the shoot all day long.

The actress playing Maggie is very pretty. And her British accent makes it even better.

It's hard for me to pick a favorite episode. Mine would probably be...(spoiler alert)
