It gets a little hard to watch towards the end because it feels like it's going drawn out. It's great to watch to see how a defense team puts together their defense though

Absolutely not. It is extremely dishonest. What happened was, the French directors struck gold with their first American true-crime film (Murder on a Sunday Morning.) It featured legit corruption and did a public service bringing ugly facts to light.
I believe they then decided that their next project (The Staircase) MUST SHOW how twisted the American justice system was. It is incredibly tilted in the criminal's direction. Even nominal research into the case shows that this a-hole is 100% guilty. (And I say that as someone who still thinks it's likely that Making a Murderer is innocent.)

Are you saying the state wasn’t corrupt in the staircase trial?
It was an interesting watch but they could’ve cut like 4-6 hours of time out of the Doc. Way too much exposition that wasn’t nessesary
I liked it better than I liked Evil Genius.

I actually didn't really care for it, and I usually get boners for the true crime docs
I didn't like the format of the whole process being filmed. Could have benefited from some narration (like Making a Murderer), not just filmed dialogue
It was also pretty goddamn boring at times. It was a 13 part doc that could have easily been about 3-4 parts.
And yeah, the dude is guilty as shite, and came off as pretty much a weasel on screen. I was rooting against him almost from the start.

SPOILERS
Regardless of this possibility, almost every piece of evidence the state used in court was either fabricated or contaminated. The states team was briefly assisted by Miles nifong, if that gives you an indication of the total incompetence by the states side. You have to prove a person is guilty and the state didn’t come close to that
/End spoilers

Yes hindsight is 20/20 but good god that entire city was corrupt and inept to its core during the 90s and 00s.

Yikes.
That's fruit of the poisonous tree when it comes to believablity.
Just like every case Nancy Grace touched.

eta- maybe a spoiler
Someone should have let the prosecution know this before they put that moron, Duane Deaver, on the stand.
As far as the series, I found watching a good defense attorney at work the most interesting thing about it.

fyi- they've added a few episodes since then but still no mention of the owl theory.

They have updated the doc twice since you’ve watched it
Might want to check it out and you’re view may change drastically
It’s very likely that those “unbiased” sources were using information that was very biased when it was introduced by the state

Major spoilers
There's been two multi episode updates since 2010. One is from 2011/2012 and covers his, ultimately successful, bid for a new trial and subsequent release. The last is from 2016 and covers the Alford plea.
I'm not aware of anything on A&E. I wasn't even aware of this whole thing until last week.

No kidding. Like the fact that his conviction was largely because of a guy that was completely full of shite.

I really liked Evil Genius and Making a Murderer.
I had to turn this off in the first episode and I went in totally blind on what the crime even was. It was boring as shite.

And the judge has admitted he should’ve never allowed anything about Germany or about his sexuality in the trial
And that the cops found the blow poke they were arguing was the murder weapon during the original trial and hide it without saying anything

It’s much more about the trial than the crime. If you’re into trials then it’s super interesting.
I felt like the twists and turns in this one was much better than Evil genius. Although I think they paced Evil Genius much better

Half the prosecution has been disbarred, discredited, or prosecuted themselves since the original doc.
Greta Black, the assistant DA, works at a dry cleaners now. Duane Deaver was rightfully fired and we all know how it turned out for Mike Nifong.
If it was such a slum dunk case then why all the bullshite tactics?
And I am NOT claiming he's innocent. I have no idea.
