I haven't watched this show since it last aired in 2008, so it's almost like a brand new show to me. I forgot how good it is. Vic Mackey is the ultimate antihero.

I just finished season 2. There are definitely some plot holes and story lines at Fall flat, but overall it's one of my favorite shows and if you haven't seen it you need to watch it on Hulu.

Also, I nominate Vic's wife for ultimate TV wife count award. I forgot how hateabke she is. I would even put her ahead of Skyler White.

Vic’s wife wasn’t helped by major Resting Mourner Face BUT in her defense, she was married to Vic who was a terrible husband. She was also stuck with two autistic kids and a sullen tween (played by Chiklis’s real life daughter).

I HATED Shane when I first watched it but now love Walton Goggins so much he’d probably be my fave.

One of the all time greats.

The Walton Goggins / Anthony Anderson scene in the interrogation room….don’t know how that aired on cable.

Glenn Close was surprisingly good in it too.

When would yall say it hits its stride?

Watching it for the first time. First couple eps are pretty outlandish. It’s like they just made an “edgy” law and order.

The pilot might be one of the worst of the “prestige era.” Everyone is a cartoon character

I always felt The Shield is a better rewatch than The Wire. The pacing is so much better. Sometimes the story lines got carried away a little too much but it was definitely engaging. i'm probably due for a rewatch. It's been about 7 years.

CCH Pounder lives in New Orleans now. I have seen her around a few times, most recently a few weeks ago at the Michaels on Claiborne buying yard.

And for Goggins, that comment could be a compliment or an insult

The early elite shows like Wire and Sopranos are not binge watchable. Each episode is a standalone story supporting a slow burn arc. I watch random sopranos eps every now and then but never sequentially.

Season 4 - Glenn close season. Noticeable jump in quality from really good show to Mt Rushmore of shows. Season 5 with Whitaker was the strongest season however.

Just reread your post. I don’t know what to tell you as most here would agree it hits its stride right away. I’ll give you the production looks very dated. .But by season 4, any datedness is long since stripped away. I’ll go so far as to say that Season 5 is the best season of tv i have ever seen, and that includes all the usual suspects (Wire, Sopranos, Breaking Bad).

As I said on the other thread, The Shield was wracking up awards after Season1, on the approximate budget of a high school production.

I wish I had watched it in order. I didn't have cable when it debuted and watched out of order when it hit syndication, so I had already seen a lot by the time I saw the pilot. Still caught me off guard. Pretty bold at the time to lay the cards out in the first episode like that.
