Read all these books when I was a kid, and the source material for this particular storyline is very well done. Has anyone watched the series? It's score on imdb.com actually isn't terrible.

If you read the books, they depart greatly from Elfstones in a few areas.

I'm not so much worried about keeping the source material 100% accurate. Brooks is a fun writer. Keeps things moving. It's just entertainment. I just want to know if the show is actually not a dumpster fire money grab produced by MTV. In essence, does it capture the entertainment value in a legible story. Oh, at least tell me Allanon is a badass.

I watched the first 3 episodes and it was shite. The actor who plays Wil is so punchable.

Allanon is Manu Bennett (Slade Wilson from Arrow)

So that's a "yes" then?

I kinda liked it but after 3 or 4 episodes I started missing it and wasn't motivated to seek it out. It's good just too MTV-ish. I may pick it up again.

Same here, I've been waiting 30+ years for a movie, or something. This wasn't very good. I stayed with the series all the way thru though. Dreary interior sets, bad acting from the two main lead teen characters, etc. The Dagda Moor character was kinda cool, but everything else was, I guess, okay. Give it a generous 2 out of 4 for trying.

It's maybe 60% accurate to the books. Terry Brook's even said that the show "had the spirit of the books", which basically means they left his material far behind.

Also, Manu Bennet is a badass, but he is 6'0 ft flat, beard less, and built like a mma fighters not Allanon at all.

I started watching, and tuned out after about 45 minutes. It was too YA for me. I read the books when I was a kid, and couldn't wait to see them made into a movie, but this was like watching Twilight.

I really liked that Bowser guy. The way he opened his mouth real wide cracked me up!
