just came on tbs and I see that it only got 2 stars and I wonder how that is possible, this movie is very very good to borderline great

was it more deserving or was 2 stars right?

I love it, but it's about as cliched as you get.

2 1/2 at least

Cox is weird with their ratings.

Some shitty movies get 3. some of the greatest get 3 1/2

I guess it is pretty cliche but that can work when the movie is so well done.

As far as movies like this go, its behind The Gladiator and Braveheart but its not too far behind.

Watching it now. Kinda hard to take Mel seriously these days. The American Revolution is one of my favorites. Great movie. Go AMERICA

It doesn't get much better than watching Mel Gibson hack those dirty redcoats to pieces.

There was absolutely nothing overly spectacular about this film that would make it anything more than an average movie.

Rotten Tomatoes said it best:

The Patriot can be entertaining to watch, but it relies too much on formula and melodrama.

Meh, I think its one of those movies that leads to being over critiqued. I thought the acting was good, well casted, and good action scenes. Of course its fricking predictable, its not like they are going to have the Brits winning the war. Not every movie makes people look inside themselves and question their morals/ethics/how they live their lives, and frankly movies would be terrible if they all were. Also, don't try to throw these words in my face about Transformers. It was terribly acted, horribly cast, and had no plot. frick you Micheal Bay, only you could ruin alien fighting robots.

Roland Emmerich is a talentless director in vision that's been given keys to make popcorn movies and that's what he does. Maybe his talents are in executing and delivering big budget movies on time and under budget for the studios.

No it's predictable and cliched in every other sense.
Little girl doesnt' speak but you can easily predict at some point she'll have a moment where she does and it'll be at a sappy point. Big showdown between villain and hero and have them do an epic battle where they get shot hundred times but still keep fighting. Since it's a war movie, let's add a social commentary about how war is bad. Let's empower women, so we'll add a shot of a girl standing up in church and challenging the townsmen's manhood. The movie is bad. real bad. I could go on and on with this movie but it's only my opinion.

It's one of those movies I'll put on anytime it's on t.v., even it's just in the background while I'm doing something else.

same here

why is that? I'm not sure.

It is a solid movie, IMO...even if it is a bit popcornish and melodramatic.

I love the Patriot, but it gets a good bit of hate on here.
