I know it lacks in historical accuracy and the plot is a well known Mel Gibson trope (out for revenge). But it makes me so fricking proud of our history and where we came from. Throwing off the yoke of the mighty British was nothing less than an act of God. John Williams score is top notch as well. I think this is one of Mel's finer moments, has some heartbreaking moments as well and is the first of many movies where Jason Isaacs makes me hate him.

Also Aunt Charlotte

Very entertaining but also very historically inaccurate....almost criminally so.

I know some of them are heinous. I don't think there's any record of the British committing such war crimes as Tavington does (burning a church full of civilians) but it does the job of making you hate those bastards with every cell in your body. frick the redcoats

If I'm going to watch a wildly inaccurate movie about Mel Gibson murdering the Brits it's going to be Braveheart. The Patriot feels like a cheap by the numbers knock off to me.

Jason Isaacs plays a great villain period but he is on another level in this one. Tom Wilkinson is a great a-hole as well.

yeah, that dude was a great villian.

I would push Colonel Tavington in front of a bus if I had the chance.

The patriot is one of the most entertaining movies of the late 90's/2000's.

The people who went in expecting a documentary will be disappointed, but on pure entertainment value, it was great. Especially compared to the boxed shite they put out these days.

One of the worst films ever made. This is a litmus test movie. If you like it your IQ can't be above mud.

frick the piece of trash, melodramatic, wildly inaccurate, dumb as dirt, condescending garage film.

What was the one good scene? It's been probably 15 years since I have watched this movie, and I don't ever foresee watching it again.

Awesome movie

The Church burning scene was taken from actual World War II history.
The Germans came into a French border town in 1944 and shot all the men and herded in the women and children into a church and burned it. The town was left abandoned and still has never been re-inhabited since that day.

This is pretty much how I feel about the movie as well.
