“The Visitor” (Season 4) of DS9 is by far the best Star Trek episode in any series. It was very well acted and written. It is astonishingly good.

Oh I like Enterprise alright, it gets a lot of grief it doesn't deserve, I just have recurring nightmares where Connor Trinneer follows me around constantly yammering about fried catfish with that accent.

It is no secret that I love pre-2009 Star Trek.
The Original Series remains the finest television show to air, IMHO. So far ahead of its time, it practically invented the television drama as we know it today. The quality of acting (yes, even Shatner) holds up over the decades, even despite the cheesy effects (and at times, cheesy soundtrack).
Humanity is better because of Star Trek.
(And, this goes without saying for some folks - it would be better for everyone if we set aside everything from 2009 on for a separate thread.)
DS9 is wonderful (although I enjoy the extremely similar product, Babylon 5 as well). TNG is great, but simply hasn't aged as well as TOS or DS9. I'm in the middle of watching Enterprise.
It simply isn't as good as the others, but a quality program in its own right.

Trip?
Alright everyone hates on Enterprise, and I agree with most of the hate. It's just pretty bad more often than it is good.
But for all of it's terribleness, I didn't really mind Trip or Dr. Phlox. I thought they were pretty solid and at least had personalities.
T'Pol, Captain Archer, Mayweather, Malcolm can all eat a bag of dicks.

Series: The Original Series...everything else is an imitation.
Episode: Balance of Terror TOS
Movie: Star Trek: Wrath of Khan
Character: James T. Kirk

Other then the dumbass "Temporal Cold War" the writing in Enterprise was solid.
It's problem was you could never find it on television.
I went back and rewatched it recently and I really enjoyed seasons 1 and 4. Just wished they had gotten to the Romulan war.

I'm probably with you on Balance of Terror as 1 - other serious candidates are City on the Edge of Forever, Amok Time, and Journey to Babel.
TWOK is essentially a "redo" of Balance of Terror, but with Khan as the bad guy. Great link to the original series. Not only the best Trek film, one of the best Science Fiction/Action films of all time.
Kirk as 1, I have to make Spock 1b. I almost have to make McCoy as 1c. The Big 3 were an important reason why all the above things are true and from a pure quality standpoint crowd out the subsequent products from serious consideration.
After all - no matter how well they were done - TNG and DS9 are just television shows at the end of the day.
TOS effectively created the market for "above B-grade" film (and televised) science fiction, including 2001, Star Wars, B5 and the list goes on. It was revolutionary and as yet unequaled.

Yep. Amok Time is the second best episode, First Contact is the second best film, Mr Scott is the second best character.

I know Star Trek was created to be kind of an idealistic vision of the future where humanity came together, and although there were disputes, tolerance, understanding, and science saves the day... but a full fledged wars with full battle scenes were great. It was the first time where I actually saw the Fleet in Star Fleet.
TNG was my "first love" though. I agree any episode with Q was great (even in the other series) Also a big fan of any Romulan-heavy episode.
Could you imagine if Riker were Kirk's First Officer? The Enterprise would be a party barge full of women from all kinds of species.

Yes, I am a Trekkie, waited in line with my folks for hours to get into the premier of Star Trek in 79, then fell asleep
Unashamed
So many good moments but All Good Things is among my favorites

Every word of this.

Rob - have you caught "Chaos on the Bridge" yet? It's a documentary by Shatner about the power struggles during the first few seasons of TNG. Fascinating look at some of the faces and stories behind the scenes.
ETA: It's on Netflix.
