Has the same director as Drive. Apparently its a very fricked up film and almost got an NC-17 rating. Anyone going to see it or has seen it?

Haven't seen it but the movie's title is Neon Demon in case the thread title causes confusion.

yes, sorry just fixed it. The movie has me intrigued but I read some imdb message boards about it and there are some really fricked up scenes. One of them containing necrophilia .

Reviews are kinda mixed but that expected with Refn's movies. I really liked Only God Forgives and that got mostly bad reviews. I think I'll see Neon Demon if it comes to theaters around here.

I'm planning on watching it. I really dug Drive, but thought Only God Forgives was just dumb ultra-violent, woman-hating garbage. (It was like a lot of Oliver Stone's work in that all the women in it were either absolute unlikeable bitches or prostitutes.)

I haven't liked a single Refn film yet, but I'll probably give this a try.

Didn't mean to call you out, c just wanted to make sure.

Supposedly this movie was booed at Cannes?

Still interested in seeing it regardless.

Hard to know what to make of film festival reactions. On one hand, their acclaim has put the spotlight on some damned good movies that would never have otherwise gained a wide distribution. On the other hand, they've had some puzzlingly negative reactions to damned good movies that managed to gain some widespread distribution in spite of the festival's disapprobation.

In short, film festival attendees are just like the rest of us. Sometimes smart, sometimes total morons. I'd wait for the wider public to start giving feedback on any festival film, just to get a larger set of opinions. That's why I've yet to rush out and watch "Tusk" even though the premise sounded delightfully weird and it was being made by a reasonably well-regarded filmmaker. I'll watch it eventually to form my own opinion; I'm just not pulling out all stops to do so. That's pretty much how I feel about "Neon Demon" right now.

Certainly, Refn fans really get and enjoy his films, I'm definitely one of them.

I still occasionally watch 'Only God Forgives' to see if I missed anything.

Just saw this and liked it. It had more of a David Lynch feel to it than anything Refn has done. Reminded me a lot of Mulholland Drive. It had a dreamy, surreal kind of quality to it.
The acting was mostly cold and emotionless but worked for this story. The music was very good. It was more synthpop like in Drive but with a darker tone. The overall look of the movie was pretty good too, although it was kinda dark at times.
This is a weird movie and not certainly not for everyone. I think most people will say nothing happens or they didn't get it but that's not true at all. There are a few kinda disturbing scenes if you're the sensitive type.
This movie makes for a good trilogy on the darker side of fame with Mulholland Drive and Black Swan. Fans of those movies would enjoy this one.
