Granted it was a miniseries, but Lonesome Dove was better on film than the book itself. The book was originally a fleshed out movie idea, anyways - so it kind of went backwards in development.

I like this thread because the OP is a good discussion topic and I am finding out that some movies are based on books that I didn't even know were books to begin with.

The Hunger Games movies have been better than their source material IMO.

The Godfather can not be watched in my house for more than 2 sec without my dad mentioning the book. Haha. Sorry dad I love you, but let me enjoy this masterpiece!

As someone who has read all of the books i can tell you that the books are better. Especially from "Battle of the Labyrinth" (My favorite of the series)on.

The first movie wasn't very good because of the butchering of the material, but the second movie was a tremendous improvement. The last 2 books are almost made for film so if they finish out the first series i think it will be very difficult to screw up.

Disagree, I've read the book twice and think it's better than the movie.

But then again, The Godfather is one of the best movies made all-time

The books are written for young adults. They're very light reading. Each of them ends on a major cliffhanger. Plot points are not revealed until the next book.

The movie wasn't great.

Its because they don't. The books are light years better. Except for Annabeth. That is definitely better in the movie.

I must confess: I watched Sea of Monsters after the episode of True Detective.

I kept giggling. Wife wanted to know why.

Saw her in Lightning Thief and was like, wow, those eyes...and she is really pretty.

Saw her in Hall Pass....was like, wow, those "eyes".

True Detective....was something I had hoped would happen, but never expected it to. So happy for HBO.

ETA: I just realized that the OP just shite all over your other thread. Not cool man.

The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Based on the Stephen King novella "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" which appeared in the same collection as 'The Body' (Stand by Me based on it) and 'Apt Pupil' (film version with Brad Renfro.)

It's close though. I really enjoyed both.

I was going to mention all three. Except I liked the story Apt Pupil over teh movie. But I like Shawshank and Stand by Me better than the book.
