Just watched this- a few things:
I think maybe one of the points to this are that in 1990, LA had several active serial killers. This guy didn't have long hair, so I assume he was the real killer or just another predator on the road.
Leto's character was such a creep, there is no dichotomy- we wouldn't feel bad if Malek killed him and he's innocent, because the guy gets off on dead girls.
Having said that- I think they had the right guy. The mile markers, the roast beef, the pizza, the beer- too many things to be just coincidence.
I think the first hour was really good and had the makings for something special.
