DirectTv carries Logo, a gay channel.

They are showing All in the Family reruns.

Sadly, All in the Family reruns, even for after seeing them for the 6th time are better than anything the other 200 channels have on most of the time.

Yesterday, I was falling on the floor laughing at Archie slamming the door several times because the meathead complained about him slamming the door after coming home from a bad day at work.

I couldn't find that clip on youtube, but I found this one of Archie explaining how England was a "fagdom."

Meathead: "Just because Roger wears glasses doesn't mean he's gay."

Archie: "A guy who wears glasses isn't a fig. A guy who wears glasses is a 4 eyes. I guy who is queer is a fig."

Logo shows some pretty decent movies every so often . . .not that there's anything wrong with that.

I found it odd that logo was running them. Too bad logo looks like shite. If they were HD at least we'd get a more transparent recording of those old 2" quadruplex recordings.

Archie never failed to make me laugh.

Watch this channel often?

ETA: I have Cox so I'm unfamiliar with the channel.

Unbelievable how good and how much funnier classic sitcoms are than the absolute shite that is on the last decade+. I stopped on Sandord and Son Saturday for an episode and laughed aloud 3-4 times in 20 minutes.

It's not on the level of All In The Family but still great.

Archie Bunker was supposed to be an object of scorn, but he became a hero to many Americans. My grandfather was one of them. He loved Archie.

There were only 3 channels in the 1970s. If you got a sitcom put on one of those networks, it met a lot of benchmarks. And to stay on, it had to be "funny."

When you look at the body of work of not just good, but great sitcoms of the 1970s:

All in the Family
Sanford and Son
Good Times
Maude
The Jeffersons
M*A*S*H
Barney Miller
Taxi
Happy Days
Laverne and Shirley
WKRP
SOAP
Mary Tyler Moore
Bob Newhart
Mork and Mindy
The Odd Couple
Rhoda
Chico and the Man
Alice
One Day at a Time
What's Happening!
Welcome Back Kotter
Three's Company

And the dueling "family" comedies:

Partridge Family
Brady Bunch

Archie Bunker wasn't really a bad person; he was just kinda odd and stuck in his ways. There are, and always will be, people that think like he did throughout our society. Wealthy, Poor, educated, uneducated.
How many people remember the episode where some KKK members tried to recruit him for membership. He basically told them to frick themselves.

One of the cable channels caries reruns and I've been catching some recently. Redd Foxx was so funny. Any time him and Esther get into it's gold.

Foxx and Lawanda Page grew up together in St. Louis.

Another thing that is overlooked is Foxx's age - he appeared significantly older than his chronological age. He was only 50 when cast (and 55 when the show wrapped), playing a character in his mid-60s to about 70, and he captured that "old man" vibe really well. Foxx only lived to be 69 years old, and in a sad, ironic, and touching twist, he died on the set of The Royal Family (working title was Chest Pains), of a heart attack, effectively in Della Reese's arms, calling for his wife.

The other cast members thought he was doing a bit from Sanford and Son to entertain them, at least at first.
