The guy abandoned his wife at that house and then pretty much destroyed humanity on his own.

What a jerk.

Even though there is no way he could have protected her, he's definitely still a tPOS.

I thought it was crap he left her there too, but I can still see how, in that moment, the desire to not be ripped apart while still alive might trump love of your spouse. I'm talking one second it's fine, next second you have to decide to basically run for it or die horribly. What I could NOT forgive was his thorough disregard of the safety rules the USA put in place to keep her quarantined. He just opened a bunch of doors, walked up to her, and got his face chewed off, thus dooming England AGAIN. fricking Begbie.

In other words, he was married for 10+ years and lived out the personal fantasy of every man in said position.

He had one rule to follow, one...and nope destroys the world

There was no way he could have saved her. He probably should have been more honest with his kids though. That is one of the greatest opening sequences in a movie though. Just dozens of infected running after him, trying to get the boat running. I loved it..

That death scene when he finally gets infected is fricking brutal if I remember correctly.

It really is a great opening scene. Not just for a horror movie, but any movie period. Intense AF

He was an ignoble coward, but let's stick our heads into the real world for a second and acknowledge that living in a post-apocalyptic society filled with raging cannibal track stars might cause almost anyone to go into self-preservation mode and make unethical decisions to survive. He wasn't the hero of the movie, after all. He was the average person on the street who panicked and did something awful in the stress of the situation. These people are in every horror or disaster movie. They just don't usually get much screen time.

Also, he can't be a complete POS. Complete POSs don't feel incredibly guilty about what they did. He clearly did. He did so much that he got himself killed (infected, soon to die, at least) doing something stupid dealing with his guilt.

It was to illustrate man's primal nature...as the Zombies were primal.

Fight or flight instinct...like any animal. Self-preservation is the most primal response.

Not only did he abandon his wife and lie to his kids, once he was infected he rips his wife apart. Considering the attack she had already withstood, this makes him extra shitty.

Yeah, he is a coward.

I just want to say it kind of ruined the plot when he sees his kids (after he was infected) but doesn't attack. He just stares at them and looks like he's being calculating.

Technically, they aren't zombies. They didn't rise from the dead. They are infected, living human beings
