So he kidnaps M so he can face off against 50 Mercs with assault rifles and an attack chopper, while his only defense is a 12 gauge crack barrell and some propane tanks.
M dies (of course) in the ensuing gun fight and nothing happens to him?
The whole flee to ireland plan was contrived just so we can see his childhood home?
I really really liked the movie up until this point. Am I missing something? If not that was a pretty crappy way to end a pretty good movie.

The movie went on a downward spiral after Silva's capture

The whole plan was to use M as bait to lure the villain out into the middle of nowhere, away from his comfort zone, so that Bond could take him and his organization out. The plan didn't go as planned, however, as Bond hoped to have a fully stocked room of guns inside his childhood mansion. They were all sold and therefore Bond had to go to plan B.
I agree it was still something of a weak third act but it's a Bond film and, compared to a lot of the outrageous third acts we have gotten in this franchise, this one was actually really tame.

First of all Scotland =/= Ireland.
Secondly, I thought it was pretty clear what the plan was. Get the tech savvy bad guy out of his comfort zone; in the sticks.
I thought the ending was the best part of the movie.

The problem with the ending was the bad guy won. All he really wanted to do was kill "M" and himself. Well guess what, he accomplished both. The mission ended in failure.
On a side note. What about the people that bought the house. "Hey honey let's go check out our new cool mansion out in the sticks. Wait WTF!

Was any else sad that bond didn't get to eat his mac'n cheese after he set up the house?

Very DARK KNIGHT influenced (especially the antagonist).
How did Bond survive the opening 'kill'? No explanation given of that.
Head of MI6 testifying and the security consists of little more than you'd see a a county courthouse? Open to the public as well.
Was okay but doubt I'd watch it again. Disappointed in the quality post CASINO ROYALE, but this did beat the sucky QOS.

the whole "bad guy wins" crap is so played out and it means your movie sucks.

No he didnt. He didnt get the satisfaction of seeing M die. To his knowledge right before Bond off'd him, M survived. As for M dying, the movie made it pretty clear she had a death wish/was ready to die..she felt the guilt of her job's consequences and her husband, it was noted, had passed away.

Yes I understand the "plan" my point is that it was awfully asinine and resulted in the head of MI6 being murdered. An outcome for which the principal agent acting on his own suffered no consequence.
My question is was this contrived just so we can see the house he grew up in? Or was it just a ridiculous bit of poor writing.

Another part I got stuck on was the new Q when attempting to hack into the bad guy's computer, needed it to be connected to the MI-6 network? WTF? Doesn't computer forensics 101 mandate that there is ALWAYS the possibility of the bad guy's computer containing harmful viruses that can affect a network?
The bad guy's plan of being captured by Bond depended on knowing that his malware would successfully infect the network?
Also, what was the necessity of the character names Kincade at the end? He had speaking parts, yet his role was inconsequential. If you take him out of the story, M could retreat without his assistance?
The role would have been more functional if Sean Connery had been cast in the part of Kincade.

Yes he did. Did you even watch the movie? His last wish was that they would die together. So no he never would have seen her die or had the satisfaction. I never thought I would need to explain that to anyone after they made a huge deal of him wanting them to die together. So she died a minute later. His actions caused her to die within an extremely short period of time of his, which is what he wanted, so he won. Are you claiming a Moral victory that she wanted to die. Please...that's patently ridiculous.

I told Mrs. Ugly he was "home-aloneing" the house during the movie.

was Silva supposed to be a homo?

I personally would have left M alive and have her retire at the end of the film. She was already on her way out the door anyway.
