Haven't seen it in awhile (until I saw the last hour or so today), but what a powerfully emotional story. How the hell did Out of Africa beat it at the Academy Awards?

Nominated for 11 awards and won zero.

Never saw it. I think the title was bad, like The Shawshank Redemption.

They are both fantastic films. I have watched both multiple times and can go back to the well and enjoy them just as much now. Different films, but both beautifully shot and directed. Both were equally deserving IMO. It's not like you're comparing Metropolis to Joe Dirt as you seem to suggest.
