Find people who watch the movie for the first time and ask if they "got it." And see if they had laughed or not. I just have a hard time believing that people didn't laugh at all, and then suddenly laughed a bunch.

There are MULTIPLE examples of this with TBL. The first time I watched it at my friend's house, I was crying and he didn't "get it". He only watched it again because of how much I laughed and he has been a die hard TBL fan since. Many people on this thread have already said they had to watch it a second time.

How many more times do you need to hear it? TBL is a unique film and indeed gets better with each viewing. Therefore, it's reasonable to think that someone who didn't like it the first time will like it the second time, based on the history of this particular film. It bombed at the box office, but now it's considered one of the best comedies of all time.

That doesn't mean the film is a "failure". It means there are lots of things that people miss the first time around. It's pretty simple actually.

If you don't at least do that and get that meaning which is apparent on the first viewing then you will never make it to subsequent viewing in order to discover the depth of the humor. The humor isn't just going to pop out of nowhere suddenly.

Which is horseshite. Too many examples of it happening with TBL.

Anyway, did anyone here go to The Lebowski Fest in NOLA? I was in town for my sister's wedding and went to both nights festivities

I've never seen a person, especially with comedy, who was appalled or hated a film enough to walk out on it, grow to love it later.

I already mentioned my friend with TBL, but this happened with me on Ace Ventura. I couldn't stand it the first time. I watched it and thought it was lame and immature. My friends convinced me to watch it again and somehow it was funny as hell the second time. Could have been the weed , but I thought it was funny on viewings past that when not even loaded.

It does happen. How is this hard for you to grasp?
