Well he didn’t tell that to Fredo. I do think it is open for interpretation and maybe I just think Fredo is dumber than he actually is. The additional embrace at the end makes me think Fredo was clueless and thought that his brother would never wack him. Additionally Fredo was the only person that supported Michael joining the Marines. I think Fredo overestimated Michael’s loyalty to him and his family.

I’ll be honest and admit it’s been along time since I’ve seen either Godfather one or two. Never did see three. But I doubt Michael would actually tell Fredo nothing would happened to him while their mother was alive. But I know Michael said this to somebody. Just forget who.

Says it to Neri who later takes Fredo fishing.

I think most people assumed Fredo knew he was going to the gallows.

The tentativeness of him going on the boat, realizing the ride made no sense with just him and an enforcer after the kid gets removed.

I love how in that scene one of the zombies is ripping out his intestines and giving it to another zombie

Final scene of "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid". They were shot up and heading out that building into a firing squad stationed all around that building. Nobody in their right mind thinks they will escape that.

Nice to see the original Day of the Dead still getting its props.

This. Fredo may have been slow but he wasn't stupid. The only reason why he was going out on the boat was so that he could take his nephew fishing. When his nephew got called in and Michael's #1 enforcer took his place, I'm pretty sure Fredo would have been wise to what was going on. At the very least he would have known something was off. I feel like Michael would have forgiven Fredo if he were just stupid.

Are we talking about people who accidentally stumbled onto death only to realize it at the last moment... or people who courageously took it on for some cause or other people?

Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction is an example of the former... Reverend Scott in The Poseidon Adventure would be the latter.

Yeah, I don't think there's any doubt about it at that point.
