If you don't know him, please watch the 2013 Documentary entitled "Milius."

To me, he's a top 15 or 20 figure in the history of Hollywood and one of the single best writers ever.

As Sam Elliot said, "He doesn't write for pussies and he doesn't write for women--he writes for men."

Maybe my favorite line besides the napalm scene... LINK

If you know Milius then you know a lot of the greatness attributed to his better-loved contemporaries was his creation.

Correct, supposedly the Coens loved him so much they based Walter on him. Milius used to sit around and tell them insane stories and entertain them.

Also wrote the USS Indianapolis scene in Jaws. And as the other poster alluded to, he helped out his more famous USC Film school contemporaries on countless occasions. How Milius didn't win an Oscar or at least an honorary Oscar is simply stunning.

yeah after watching Milius, it seemed every time one of his buds needed help he'd swoop in and save the day, often without official credits. dude is an absolute beast of a storyteller and knows how to fix writing issues for sure

Alas, I had a chance to be an extra in "The Wind and the Lion" but they picked a couple of other guys before I even knew about it.

It played for weeks and weeks at the base theater in Rota, Spain.

About 40 guys from the Marine Barracks and a couple of guys from the Marine Detachment on the USS Simon lake are in the movie.

Nice little Milius interview/conversation on the Frazetta: Painting with Fire documentary. Milius and Frazetta were testosterone brothers of a sort.
