The 50's sure did look swell. Everything is clean, people are polite, well dressed, cool looking cars, real sugar in the sodas, ect.
Marty's girlfriend in BTTF 1 is better looking than the one in the sequels.
The 80's look like crap. Everything is rundown and dirty looking. Heck, there's a damn porno theater in the downtown. Were the 80's really that trashy looking and seedy everywhere?

Marty's mom > both.

80s were pretty rough on the eyes. Fashions were rough, lots of bright colors that were really tacky. Music was pretty stellar though, there was a lot of experimentation with different sounds.

City was great until Goldie the liberal won the election. A lot like Baltimore,Chicago, Detroit, etc etc etc

50's and 60's... Highways were trashed from people throwing garbage out of their car windows. They don't show that in the movies.

I laugh more and more at Doc's shock of an actor being president in 1985. Imagine what he'd think of a possible President Trump, a black president, gay marriage, Bruce Jenner, etc.

How do you know Goldie was a liberal? Because he's black? He said he was gonna clean up this town, which he obviously failed at, but we don't know the rest of his platform.
Now, Red Thomas on the other hand was a great mayor. He got stuff done.

Also, alternate 1985 looked just like North Baton Rouge with the Hollywood Casino and Exxon surrounded by blighted houses

There was far more smog in the 50's and 60's than today despite more cars and people now - especially in places like Los Angeles and other major metro cities...
There was no regulation - Everyone was allowed to burn their trash on their property and houses were sold with incinerators.
Cities looked grey like Beijing from all the crazy pollution.
Kids in the 50's and early 60's had "smog warning days" where the kids either didn't go to school or weren't allowed to go outside for recess and play for fear of lung damage.
But yeah, 50's and 60's were so clean.

People look back at the 50s based on how it was portrayed in Pleasantville and Leave It To Beaver. They Had just as many trashy people/areas as they do today.

I think that was a shot at Reagan.

What always bothers me about going back to the 50's movies is the 3-D glasses thing - the French Bread sticking out of the brown bag - for the 50's.
Teenagers are wearing these paper things with green on one side and red on the other outside the cinema.
You see it in back to the future, Grease, etc.
I've never seen a movie actually filmed in the 50's where some clown was wearing these around town.
But those have become the staple to let the audience know...oh yeah, we're in the 50's...rolled jeans and 3-D glasses.

Things are cleaner and better now than in the 80s and 90s. Most people just remember the good stuff.
