Star Wars: Force Awakens is not A New Hope (SPOILERS INSIDE) it was...

Return of the Jedi, but in bizzaro universe. Actually a very original plot.
Everyone is saying this was a remake of ANH, but I disagree. If you look at it, this is a remake of ROTJ, but in a bizzaro universe. The exact plot arc of ROTJ was in play. If you substitute Ben for Luke and Han for Vader. In ROTJ there was a super evil character egging on Luke and in TFA, Ben was being pushed by a super evil character. At the critical moment, Luke chose to say with the light, Ben chose to be with the dark. Because Kylo Ren is so imperfect as a Jedi, remember Vader had a decade of Jedi training, he parallels Luke in ROTJ, not ANH. Everything after Han’s death is setting up the new trilogy and you can view Kylo’s story as if this is what would have happened if Luke would have turned to the dark side. So I thought the plot was pretty original from a certain point of view.
It was an awesome movie as a continuation of the Star Wars universe into a new generation, not a reboot of Luke's story.

I enjoyed the movie, but the haters are gonna hate and with the advent of internet message boards there is no stopping the dark side.

I think aesthetically it "looks" like the original movies and that tends to draw those strong comparisons. It continued the story without revealing too much and set things up for the VIII well.
There's always going to be a section of people who will hate on a movie just to hate on it or because they let their own expectations get way out of hand. This movie is no different. From all accounts, the majority loved it from the casual fan to the fanboy.

Nah. It's a New Hope with sprinkles of the next two.

It's pretty much the same 6 people trolling here. They all had to start their own threads and ruin every other one too. The attention whoring is strong.

By far the most consistent criticism of Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been that it's a baldfaced ripoff of the original Star Wars, now known as Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope.
quote:
This is more or less true. The Force Awakens essentially retells the story of A New Hope, beat for beat. It inverts some things here, gender-flips some things there, and tweaks a few other things. But this is a movie about a child of mysterious parentage who grows up on a desert planet and proves essential to blowing up a massive, planet-destroying space station.

But Return of the Jedi was more or less an echo of Star Wars (please note, i saw the first one in the theater, it's Star Wars, not ANH and GET OFF OF MY LAWN!). I think that happens a lot in part 3 of a trilogy, especially around that time. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Back to the Future III and Godfather III all echo the first movie of their respective trilogies. I thought watching the Force Awakens that it was like Star Wars and i view that as a positive, not a criticism. I was more like Star Wars should be, filmed on locations and not blue screens. characters were developed and limited use of light sabers.

Main reason is because no one tried to tempt anyone to turn in ANH, that only happened in Return and Empire. Anyway its a very cool movie and I am sorry the rest of the world is wrong in the comparison! hahaha

It has elements from all three films. I personally thought the Ben and Han arc was very well done and did parallel Luke with Vader except turning to the Dark Side instead of the Light.
It's a setup film and it did its job well. I gave it a B+ when I left the theatre and I stand by that.

So fans wanted the new star wars to me just like the originals and they get it. Now they whine. they sound like Rantards.

The Star Wars universe (canon and non-canon) is pretty well know for repeating themes. The struggle that both Anakin and Luke dealt with. The struggle with the Force and learning to harness it. Family members carrying on the Jedi line. The hero's journey. The mentor/student facing off (Hell, Anakin/Vader and Obi-Wan did it TWICE).
I guess I don't see the complaint. And I'll take it vs. a director throwing in some shitty storyline to be "different" or for a "twist".

It is more in line with A New Hope:
Rey = Luke
Poe = Biggs on Steroids
Kylo Ren/Han = Vader/Obi Wan
Jakku is sister planet of Tatooine
Luke = Obi Wan
There are sprinkles of ESB and ROTJ.
It was still an enjoyable movie as my oldest son is 10 and around the same age that I was when I saw ROTJ.

Once again where did I say other parts of the internet were not discussing this? I was talking about the 6 or so people here that won't shut up.

Here's the whole thing,
Maybe you just do not communicate well.

Can you not read the word "here"?
I did not say it was not being discussed anywhere else or hated on anywhere else.
Also I was not responding to the OP. I was responding to this line.
