They finally got a great Klingon look in TNG, Voyager, DS9, and Enterprise...then drop them for crab-people. Seriously, Klingons look like that alien in Enemy Mine:

They look like the Klingons seen in Into Darkness. It has to do with some goofy in-universe reason for the Klingons of the original series looking like regular dudes.

ST has always been a point of social commentary, so the "diversity" angle doesn't bother me that much in this context.

Reminds me very much of the Abrams movies, and I'm not sure I'm cool with that. Not getting the traditional Star Trek TV series feel for it, but we'll see.

For the most part, the tv series have been about exploration. Granted, a large part of DS9 was about the Federation at war, and I really liked DS9.

But this show, with the name of "Discorvery," indicates little exploration or discovery in the trailer.

Klingons look like shite.

Which timeline is this even in? The Prime universe, where the bulk of the series take place, or the Abrams-Spock time-travel universe?

Agenda based casting + paying for CBS streaming = nope.

Was excited when I first heard about this but now I couldn't care less. I hope it fails and cost CBS millions.

It's set in the Prime universe.

If this is this case, then BulldogXero's line and "Into Darkness":

shouldn't matter as the origin for the flat-forehead Klingons in the Original Series is given in "Enterprise."

Note: I've never seen "Into Darkness" so I don't know anything about the Klingons there.

Edit: Also, the flat-forehead Klingons should have been present in "Into Darkness" since the timelines didn't diverge until some 20-some odd years before Kirk went into Starfleet (the birth of Kirk), which would have been many decades after the events of "Enterprise." NERD!

Just watched the trailer and Star Trek itself excites me, but I found none of the trailer's actual content that appealing.

After months and months of waiting, CBS finally released the first trailer for Star Trek: Discovery yesterday (seen above) and one aspect stood out above all the rest: the Klingon’s new look. The most notable difference between many of the Klingons in Star Trek: Discovery and the look of Klingons in, say, Star Trek: The Next Generation, as seen in the prosthetic makeup on Michael Dorn as Lieutenant Worf is the lack of ridges on the new Klingons’ foreheads. Unlike Worf, seen below, their foreheads are smooth, which has led to many fans theorizing that this is an ancient group of Klingons that slowly died out.

quote:

These ancient Klingons belonged to a group of alienated people who encountered humans on the edge of Federation space. In 2154, a group of Klingons managed to get their hands on Human Augments, a genetic material they used to try and improve their own genetic makeup. While this helped the Klingons become stronger and more intelligent, it also degraded their physical makeup. When one of the affected Klingons came down with a Levodian flu, the combination of the sickness and the genetic differences created an airborne, fatal plague that spread from world to world. This is all confirmed in Star Trek: Enterprise, one of the Star Trek series that happens to pre-date the Original Series.

It looks like the movies, in other words, not Star Trek.

ETA: and I don' mind a black woman captain, but Sonja is just too young to portray that kind of authority.

And I just saw that I have to sign up to see it, which likely won't happen. I'll torrent a couple of episodes and check it out, though.
