1. Apocalypse Now - Jungles of Vietnam, helo fying in slo-mo, jungle turns to
to flames, This Is The End by The Doors.....ceiling fan..
Siagon...shite.
2. To Kill A Mockingbird - hard to describe if you have not seen it. It's the title
sequence. Captures the innocence of childhood like
nothing you've ever seen, set against beautiful music,

Saving Private Ryan
Great one. Supposedly some veterans of D Day had to walk out of the theatre because the scene was so real

Came here to post the exact same thing. TOE's opening scene is the pinnacle of the tracking shot technique. It's absolute perfection.
A little trivia on this one: Janet Lee had a broken arm when they filmed this, so they had a removable cast made so that she could film without it. You can see how she holds her arm throughout the scene

Saving private Ryan and Inglorious Bastards are probably the most memorable for me.
Agree 100%. It's easily one of these in my opinion.
Can't remember any other opening scenes that had me completely locked in, edge of my seat, chest tight, hanging on every moment. Cinema at its peak.

I agree with inglorious Bastards and TDK. A few not mentioned yet:
My personal favorite: "I believe in America"
