Spinoff: How does Superman have muscles?

I made this comment tongue in cheek about Wonder Woman in the Chris Pine thread. But it got me thinking...
How does Supes have a fit physique? Muscles definition is built from the breaking down of ones muscles fibers through strenuous exercise. Kal El has never been physically strained his entire life on earth. Why doesnt he have the incredibly mushy man middle of a guy who does not physical activity?

I figured our sun's radiation & oxygen were basically super-steroids for him.

Works out in a cave deep in the Earth's crust.

What would that do? Would he actually have to exert himself down there?

My quick research yields that this is roughly correct. Apparently his body feeds completely off of our suns energy. Therefor his body stores no fat and he needs no sleep.

He's an alien.

Does he need to eat? He eats... if he doesn't need to eat because he gets no nourishment from the food, what happens to the food he eats?

He does exercise - flying and throwing asteroids and shite. All of that is strenuous for Supes.
I mean, your ever lovin' Thing lifts weights:

High temps and pressures make everything harder to do, and it's removed from the Sun, which gives him his power...making things extra hard!

Have you ever seen what your body does to corn?

Does he need to eat?
Also, it's ridiculous that he had a kid with Louis in Superman Returns. His sperm would obliterate her. Not to mention, he's a completely different species. That's like saying a human and a insect could have a child.

The artists draw him that way because they can't have Superman looking like Screech from Saved By The Bell?

That's sort of exactly what I envisioned.

Because when Supes was created and slapped into a 19th Century strongman outfit complete with outside underwear, muscles equaled strong. As the story progressed and we learned WHAT made him strong, the muscles stayed.
But yes...he wouldn't need to be muscular to be strong anymore than he needs red underwear on the outside, but he looks less like Superman without both.
