Are you implying that SNL would've completely ended if they didn't successfully spoof the 2008 campaign? I would say 12's campaign was a bigger success and neither of those hold a candle to campaign seasons of the past.

SNL had been garbage recently before the spring of 2008.

I wanted this one to be better because Cameron Diaz was really trying, and was probably one of the least dependent on cue card hosts I've seen in a while, but man it sucked.
Chris Rock's episode is on a whole other planet of s***, so nothing this season is going to touch that episode in terms of how bad it was, but this was probably second worst.
Bruno Mars though, was very entertaining and very good.

That skit with him and the fat linebacker clearly misreading que cards and lines and not knowing where to be was the absolute worst skit I've ever seen on television show.
