The point of the joke is that Erlich is inappropriate and an a-hole who is taking advantage of Jian Yang, and it comes back to bite him on the arse. It is making fun of the ignorance.

I usually enjoy reading TVClub on AVC but man I can't believe the whole premise of the gag went that far other that guys head.
