Hyperbole is the biggest sign of a mental midget. Do you really think watching television is the "least intellectual" thing a person can do? It's lower brow than picking dingleberries out of your arse and force feeding them to children you have locked in your basement?

This entire thread is a hyperbole. A lame hyperbole at that. Like only smart people can watch and get certain tv shows? I'm just merely pointing out just how stupid this thread really is and how self serving people in this thread sound. Like you need validation from watching a f*cking TV show to prove you're not a dumbass???

Really???

i could say that watching soccer is for stupid people because you're watching for 2 hours to see a scoreless tie. That's a hyperbole.

I'm smarter than all of you. I think that people calling others out who proclaim to be smarter by watching smarter shows is so smart that it's dumb.

You sound like you're not smart enough to realize that this thread is pretty much just tongue in cheek.

6 question marks.. You need to calm down before your little brain has an aneurysm.

Btw, I'm just fricking with you. Relax dude. People are just having some fun.

Haha, yeah and how about the beginning where he sang "Who are you?" in its entirety?

To me, that sums up Louie in its entirety. I like the joke, and his kids sell the scene -- they couldn't be more bored by their dad's love of the Who. But the scene goes on for FOUR minutes. OK, there was a mental bet I made with myself whether he'd drop the f-bomb, but I liked the idea of the scene far more than the execution. It just kept going on. There's a reason directors tend to edit scenes like that down.

I love Louie because he's not afraid to toy with the medium. He doesn't feel trapped by convention... he's going to do whatever the frick he wants. Like write a prominent character (his brother) and then have him completely disappear.

there is no reason the astute posters on the MTV board should argue with the cliched and tired stereotype that people who watch Adult Swim are automatically stoners. I'm not, and I find both Children's Hospital and the new NTSF:SD:SUV to be prime examples of what smart, funny, hip comedians can do when given even the smallest of resources.

Trying to avoid comparing intellects and all that, but as a rule all of the people I know that went on to LSU and such hate all of the children's hospital, suv, and most of all tim and eric.

yet we watch a good number of other shows on adult swim, fx, and futurama. The only show similar to the above I find funny is the mighty boosh.

similarly the only people I know who like the above shows are either A) not in college or B) potheads. or both.

I guess it's arrogant to draw this line in the sand, but I do agree with the OP.

There's certain content the unintelligible won't find funny.. or won't get. Perhaps calling them stupid is harsh. But if you sat down a person with below average intelligence in front of a show like Studio 60, I could see A LOT of the comedy flying right over their head. BUT they may still enjoy the show because it tells good stories of human relationships, trouble in the work place, etc.

So I agree with the poster that said the brilliance of shows like 30 Rock, Arrested, Curb, etc. is that they have these intellectual jokes that only some will get, but they also have slapstick, etc. that everyone will laugh at.

And this is why I like it intellectually. I just don't enjoy it as much as I think I do... if that makes any sense. I agree that its brilliant. but that doesn't mean I find myself enjoying the show.

Yeah, it's rarely a haha funny show, and even then that's just usually his stand-up comedy bits. Or some one off joke.

well, this must be why LSU's campus hasn't grown into a hotbed of professional comedians...as a self-professed comedy nerd, i can say with no first-hand knowledge besides the many interviews I've listened to on various podcasts that funny people who get paid to be funny dig these shows. so i'll continue agreeing with funny people, and not Fraternity Row.

What if someone gets the joke, but still doesn't think it's funny? Are they still stupid?

Far and away from frats, and surely you are not as ignorant as to see "LSU and such" and not know I mean went to college?

Even you can't deny there is a huge difference between the average LSU student and the average HS graduate (non-college)

I'm sorry that what it takes to make you laugh is the same as a person who smokes a substance to lower their intelligence, but the truth hurts?

I don't smoke pot, I wasn't in a fraternity, and I'm nowhere near college age...

... and i enjoy a lot of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. Not all of it, but robot Chicken especially is friggin' genius. Just sayin'. It's not all stoners or college kids watching. I'm watching. Tim and Eric... that's comedy.

I'm sorry, but I'm also the person who extolled the virtues of Aaron Sorkin earlier in this thread, so I don't think it's out of the question to say that intelligent people are allowed to enjoy both high and low brow humor. Woody Allen loves the Marx Brothers, and I doubt you'd say his films are stoner comedies...

I'm also never ever going to say that "going to college" gives you a finely tuned comedic palate that the rest of humanity will never understand. My mom went to college, you know what she likes? The Nanny.

Does that mean I'm ashamed of my own mother for what she thinks is funny? yes, and I've told her often.

ETA: and thanks, baloo.
