I don't think JGL gets an absolute ton of praise but he is a good actor. I think Gyllenhaal gets shite on for really no reason as he is probably one of the better young-ish actors working. At 33, he can play pretty much anything. The only thing he should never do is attempt to play a British accented Persian.

JGL was at one time underrated after he put out a string of very underrated performances in Mysterious Skin, Brick, and The Lookout.
Then he got big after 500 Days of Summer and Inception and since then he's put out a bunch of decent but unremarkable performances.

Prisoners was a pretty good movie.
But I don't think he was good at all...he dragged that movie down to - not caring - he was tepid and cold and slow to respond to acting cues - and not interesting as a character.
All you ask for in a character is to be interesting.
And he was terrible in Source Code.
End of Watch was a pretty good performance but without any real range. Just doing the cop thing.
Jarhead and Zodiac are probably his best performances...
But he's fallen off recently...anybody who actually pays attention to his films can see this.
He doesn't really deserve any special love over JGL...there was a time when he was just Bubble Boy...and it's not like he's been Pacino since then.

Gyllenhal is such a superior actor to JGL that the two aren't even comparable I'd say he's top tier in the acting world, or at least on the brink- JGL is like a B at best.

Enemy isnt that great though
Enemy is great imo. I believe he teamed up with the same director as Prisoners for Enemy, both have a very distinct dark feel to them.
Also, Prisoners is one of the most quality movies I've seen in recent years.

Couldn't disagree more. He was fantastic in it.
