Trailer

I hope they do this justice. The 1980's Richard Chamberlain version was a TV masterpiece.

I think you mean James Clavell's 1975 novel was a masterpiece. Not wild about the actors they chose but what a great book. Could be really good.

[clicks link] “I bet that dude is in it”
[:07] “Yup”

Feudal/transitional Japan is a great setting that isn’t featured enough in movies & tv. Also, love Hiroyuki Sanada.

Will check it out.

Absolutely can't wait for this.

Shogun is one of, if not my favorite books of all time.

The Novel was a Masterpiece and the mini series was a Masterpiece. No CGI, great location shots and a solid cast for the times.

I have to remember to check it out on FX, or I may have to subscribe to Disney/hulu.

Same, hopefully they can do it justice.

The miniseries was a pretty great adaptation back in the day.

And of all the historical places least likely to have girl bosses, medieval Japan is way up there on the list.

Its a major minority cast so pretty woke? Expect trans people to be in it, BUT to be fair, Japan always had that shite.

Hopefully, they don't go the Mary Sue route (like Fargo S. 5) and have a kick arse lady samurai chopping dudes in half, but it looked a little like that. Lady Toda Mariko in the novel is incredibly intelligent and influential in the novel; arguably the second or third most important character. I hope they respect the novel and don't turn her into Captain Marvel. There is just no need for that. Also, that character needs to get naked and have a killer body. The bath scene.

The girl playing her is beautiful. I believe it's the same girl that was in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on apple plus.

This isn't Shogun. Looks just like any other modern martial arts movie where guys and gals are on equal footing in society and abilities. This is 16th Century Japan producers. Women made tea, food, baths and sex.

That trailer is confusing...Where's the ships crew? Already dead after being tortured?

Wouldn't be surprised if the Japanese girl becomes a Shogun at the end as that position was hereditary and looks like she's the Shogun's daughter. Hollywood can't help themselves.
