Serial podcast versus Making a Murder

The first season of Serial was a cultural phenomenon. It introduced so many people to the world of podcasting that I've lived in for years but is lost on the public at large.
There are so many people in prison on shady or outright ludicrous convictions.
Making a Murder on Netflix is a good example.
Season 2 of Serial is terrible. There is nothing enthralling and no mystery to be unraveled. It is just Sarah trying to clear Bergdahl's name. She said it in episode 3.
Season one of Serial was great but instead of finding another person possibly incarcerated unjustly we get Sarah doing what NPR does.

I was pretty sad when I found out serial wasn't doing the same type of thing for S2. Haven't listened to new season so don't know anything to have an opinion.
Making a murderer also really good watch

i'm serious about starting up a media company this year and i'm considering doing productions on similar topics
i'm curious how difficult it is to get options for these sorts of stories that are interesting (and in this case, local)
the biggest issue is that the vast majority of bullshite convictions/jailings is that so many are just your typical drug story. while inherently valid for exposure, they're just not that entertaining.

Would you need options for legal stories already in the public domain?

I'm mid Episode 3 now...when does she say that?
