Anyone a little disappointed they killed off Smaug in the first 5 minutes?
Those that have read the book knew this was gonna happen at the end of Desolation of Smaug. I was annoyed when they ended DoS that way, so I guess I had some time to come to grips with the fact that Smaug would be killed off almost instantly.

5 seconds of Beorn
My biggest complaint.

Borg/Legolas
Should have been Borg vs Beorn

Thorin/Azog
Really enjoyed this even though Azog didn't live in the books.

What the frick does Legolas do for 50-60 years (despite the fact I dont think he was ever involved in the Hobbit book).
I'm sure it took awhile to find him as he was in the North living in the wild. I'm thinking Legolas meets up with him and joins him in fighting the growing threat of Sauron with King Thengel (King Théoden's father) and Ecthelion II (father of Denethor).

Overall I really enjoyed the third Hobbit. Great series and I am sad that we will most likely not get another Peter Jackson interpretation of J.R.R. Tolkien's novels.

Same here. I would love to see a Turin Turambar/Children of Hurin movie. Or the Silmarillion mini-series

Unfortunately it'll probably never happen. I think the Tolkein estate owns the rights until around 2050 or something.

I saw it over the weekend in 3-D Imax. Well worth the uncharge and much better than the previous movies.

Would love to see it cut down to two movies, and then a blu-ray box set of all (then it would be 5) movies.

But I get the feeling we will get even more scenes added to the Hobbit trilogy to sell as an extended set - ugh.

As a huge "dork" fan of all of the books in each series - I disliked this movie intensely. If I had not been with my brother and nephews I would have walked out.

I think we can all agree that the scene with the White Council in Dol Guldur was badass.

Absolutely.

When Galadriel used Nenya and the light of Earendil (Earendil guards the void using light from the Two Trees in a Silmaril from the return of Melkor) to drive back Sauron, I had a full on geek boner.

I'm a huge "dork" fan of the books also. But I'm not that anal about the movies. They are separate to me. The books obviously being canon and GOAT. The movies being their own telling of the story. Hell, if I had an unlimited supply of money and resources, I'd make a film from each chapter of every book word for word.

How would you incorporate the exclamation points

The oddest thing about reading the Hobbit was the absurd overuse of exclamation points.

If it wasn't a prequel they just could have named the 3rd hobbit movie battle at Helms Deep II. The redemption of thorin was pretty bad also.

Guess this will be the first middle earth themed movie I won't see in the theaters. I've been really let down by all of the Hobbit movies so far.

Hated most of the first one from the singing dwarfs on. I hated Evangeline Lilly's character (though I'd give my left pinkie just to touch her bare arse) in the last two.

But you should go see the last one. A lot better than the first two.
