Some very juicy details on what might be planned for Warner Bros. new Batman flick here. Word is the plot will take elements from both the A Death In the Family and Under The Hood comic arcs, and that means the introduction of Jason Todd!

Following their Wonder Woman details from last week, JoBlo reckon they've sussed out the plot of the next Batman movie, which might just have Ben Affleck in the director's chair. According to the site this movie will see the cinematic debut of The Red Hood, AKA the resurrected Jason Todd, and will be based (how closely is unclear) on both A Death In The Family, which saw Todd murdered by the Joker, and Under The Hood, in which he was raised from the dead via the Lazarus pit to seek vengeance against his former mentor.

"According to our sources, the basic plotline of Affleck’s solo Batfilm is that Jason Todd has returned from the grave as the Red Hood, working in the shadows to make people think he's Batman, while making Batman look like a criminal. At the same time he leaves clues about his identity for Bruce/Batman to ultimately solve, leading to a confrontation that will involve Batman, Red Hood, and yes, The Joker, who will feature as a primary villain alongside Red Hood."

That's not all: the movie will apparently also feature Dick Grayson as Nightwing, who will team up with Batman to take on Red Hood and the Joker. Expect a Nightwing reference or two in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, which may also feature a cameo from Todd. In terms of casting, JoBlo has heard that WB and co. are searching for an unknown actor for the Red Hood role, and that the character's look will be derived from his comic book and Arkham Knight video game appearances.

We'll have to take this as a rumor for now, but it does make sense given the clues from the Batman V Superman trailer: the defaced Robin statue and the mysterious "you let your family die" note that's sent to Bruce Wayne.

It's probably all BS, but it would be cool if this is the route they take. The Red hood is a great story to base a film off.

he will probably do both. but at first he blames bruce a lot as well.

i always wondered if the red hood/jason todd stuff is mainstream enough for the general audience. Hush would probably be easier or Court of Owl. But the entire Red Hood stuff is a cool dynamic and decent story.

"Batman - Under the Red Hood" is one of the best Batman animated films out there - really solid - 100% on RT.

BC of Batman's "no kill rule" essentially and how he chose to lock up the Joker instead of killing him, despite all of the people the Joker has killed.

the red hood is a great story, so is a death in the family

But how do you introduce the 2nd robin, when we haven't seen a robin in 15+ years? Especially since the joker kills todd.

I just don't get it.

Oh this is quite the tease. Red Hood, Jason Todd, and Nightwing?

Casting and director choice will be huge here.

In addition to blowing up Jason, the Joker also killed Jason's estranged mother at the same time. That further fueled his disdain for Bruce's no killing rule.

Apparently Todd isn't dead if they are doing Under The Red Hood.

ETA: BTW, I am beyond psyched that they are doing a movie based on A Death In The Family and Under The Red Hood!

Absolutely.

I'm interested to see how they play the exposition in BvS. MoS was a completely original take, so if they're going to have a Jason Todd reference in BvS and fly right into Nightwing/Dick Grayson and Red Hood, then I suppose they are going to at least suppose most people are aware of the basic Batman canon.

There's already enough back story through multiple films with the first robin to where you don't have to reintroduce him. I think they will touch on Jason Todd through flashbacks in suicide squad and batman v superman. And then if I recall they are doing three batman solo films. I think they could do a whole trilogy of red hood to be honest.

Well Batman didn't know that in the comics until that story arc.

Completely forgot about this. That totally works.

Could that be Scott Eastwood's role in suicide squad? I've heard a ton of speculation that's who he'll be playing.

I believe they've been saying that we will get some sort of hint of one of the Robins (obviously Todd) in BvS, like a memorial to him in the batcave or something. So I'm sure it will be mentioned there, and then touched on again in Suicide Squad.

There was a rumor that Zack Snyder's son was going to play Jason Todd in BvsS. Perhaps flashbacks?

Because Bruce Wayne is in his 40s and has been Batman for years now. Dick has already been his apprentice and Todd has been killed by the Joker by the time BvS starts. This is the one bright spot of BvS is that this allows us to get to smaller but awesome Supervillains that aren't necessarily an overall threat to Gotham but are very personal enemies of Batman that he wouldn't get the Justice League involved in. Plus you could have the standard villains like Two Face, Riddler, and Scarecrow already running around without taking 30 minutes to set them up.

My hopes for the new Batman trilogy:
I: Red Hood
II: Hush and the Court of Owls
III: Hugo Strange
