Actor George Coe, who was nominated for an Academy Award in 1968 for The Dove but is probably best known as an original SNL cast member and the voice of Sterling Archer’s reluctantly loyal, heroin-addicted butler Woodhouse on Archer, died on Saturday “after battling a long illness,” reports Variety. He was 86 years old.

The Jamaica, Queens-born Coe appeared in multiple roles in every decade since the 1960s, including guest spots on Thirtysomething, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Gilmore Girls, and Curb Your Enthusiasm, and he even voiced Wheeljack in Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Coe was an original Not Ready For Prime Time Player on SNL, but was only credited for one episode, the show’s first, on October 11, 1975 (he, however, did appear a few more times).

Goodnight, Sweet Prince.

May your next life be spent serving under a benevolent master in a place where the heroin flows like waterfalls.

Sucks. I was just wondering yesterday if Woodhouse was coming back, and now his voice actor has passed. RIP bro.

Damn! I forgot about Reggie.

The episode about the WWI vets getting killed off was hilarious.

Reggie: Woodhouse, you came for me!
Woodhouse: Of course I did, sir! I'm a...
Reggie: fig?
Woodhouse: Sir?
Reggie: Have you got one? Dying for a smoke.

That sucks. I wonder if they'll get someone else to do the voice or just retire the character.

Probably just retire the character. I don't think Woodhouse appeared in Season 6 at all.

It seems callous to speak about this right now but I do think that his time away makes it an easier transition to recast since it's been a long while since we've heard his voice.

Have his health issues been the reason why he wasn't written into the past couple seasons? I was unaware.

Apparently someone else besides Coe voiced him in season 5? They could use young Woodhouse's VA, or they could retire him.

They should just explain his disappearance by getting a postcard from Woodhouse, Charles & Rudy on their around the world trip funded by the tontine winnings.
