"Resident Evil" getting a reboot already

The franchise having made over a billion dollars total over the course of six films is a whole lot of reasons.
Also, OP is wrong. RE6 already had it's theatrical run both in the US and abroad.

There are 3 main protagonists and one main antagonist in the series.
The main protagonists are Jill Valentine (1 and 3), Chris Redfield (5 and 6), and Leon Kennedy (4).
The main antagonist, of course, is Albert Wesker.
Interestingly enough, at the end of Resident Evil 7, Chris is apparently a member of Umbrella.
