fun facts: they began shooting the remake in September 2009 and it's just coming out now because MGM went bankrupt and they changed the enemy from China to North Korea because a lot of people in China watch movies

It did not hold up well at all. The acting was horrid and the action scenes were laughable. I wish I would not have watched it because it ruined my memories of it.

Agreed. I had the same thoughts on rewatched.

Has a damn after school special feel or something weird. Can't put my finger on it.

I'd guess most people calling the remake blasphemy haven't seen the original since high school or just refuse to let go of the nostalgia of when they watched it as kids.

As a first viewed movie nowadays, it is barely watchable.

But that is one reason I'm actually going to give the remake a chance.

Hope they don't alter the original too much (minus the Russia/NKorea angle obviously) and do mostly the same movie, just do it BETTER.

Just thinking that, it looks like an FX original movie.
