These are all basically B movies so adjust your expectations accordingly. Plot and acting aren't the focus, action is. Fans of good old fashioned punching, kicking, and shooting should enjoy these movies.

netflix
Kung Fu Killer Donnie Yen kicks all kinds of arse here

War of the Arrows I saw someone on this board recommend this once, its pretty good. If you enjoy bow and arrow combat, this is the movie for you.

Ninja 2: Shadow of a Tear This looks like something made in the 80s. In other words its awesome.

The Redeemer Bit of a religious theme here, but whatever the action is awesome.

Close Range An hour and a half of Mexicans getting beat up and killed.

not on netflix but worth your time
Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning This gets bonus points for being filmed in BR. JCVD is pretty good too.

Undisputed 2 The original Undisputed is a big budget movie with Wesley Snipes and Ving Rhames. Michael Jai White plays Ving Rhames' character in this. The original is on netflix and good too.

Undisputed 3 This movie is awesome. Highly recommended for fans of Bloodsport.

El Gringo This feels like something Robert Rodriguez would have made in the 90s but better action.

Edge of Tomorrow is one of my all time favorite action/scifi movies.

Olympus has Fallen is an extremely underrated action movie. I loved it. It's the best "die hard" movie since Die Hard and it's a great movie in its own right.

Kingman is a solid Spy/Bond type action movie. It's got a spoof quality to it but it's more paying tribute to the genre than making fun of it and I thought it was great.

John Wick. Watch it.

Thanks for posting those.

This entire board should be renamed...

Superhero/Fantasy Board.

It's rare to see threads that don't involve Marvel, DC, Pixar, LOTR, Star Wars, inner-child, etc.

No one ever talks about classic movies anymore...or even 70's or 60's...Everything is 90's kids movies, recent comic-book movies or anime/cartoons.

I assumed there were still a few fans of 80s style action movies. I guess I was wrong.

I guess that means it's time for another...

We get a few threads on here from time to time. But, what's hot are the action franchise, comic book, Star Wars, etc. films. Great storytelling has moved, largely, to television. I'm even a victim of this myself - I go to the cinema to see the "spectacle" films.

But, we occasionally get a Casablanca/Citizen Kane/Kubrick/Apocalypse Now!/Godfather-type thread going or something about the 1960s/1970s era and how filmmaking was changing.

Kingsmen and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. were both solid. I liked Kingsmen a lot more however.

3:10 to Yuma is the best Western probably since 2000 though it's probably not considered recent anymore.

Edge of Tomorrow was good. Fast and Furious series is my guilty pleasure. Inception was at times an action movie but more of a thriller I suppose.

Yeah considering the market is saturated with superheroes and similar films, it makes sense that this Board would discuss those. It's actually pretty incredible and a testament to this Board that the classics are discussed as much as they are.

I'm thinking about doing a thread on Network (1976) - I think we could get some mileage out of that one on here.

ETA: Or maybe a broader thread on Sydney Lumet. I mean the guy directed 12 Angry Men, Fail-Safe (same source material as Dr. Strangelove, BTW), Serpico, Murder on the Orient Express, Dog Day Afternoon, Network, The Wiz, and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead - among about 65 other feature films, TV movies and tv shows. Really prolific and unique.

Maybe I should have said B movies in the title. Or at least not the big budget movies everyone has already seen. I think a lot of these B movies have a certain charm lacking from the Hollywood stuff. Its a nice change of pace anyway.

a lot of the classics are only classics b/c they were what was popular in that era.

30 years from now many of these superhero movies will also be viewed as classics.

It's like I heard someone say. The superhero movies are the new western. As of now I would prefer to watch a western. I'm really burnt out on the SH movies.

Don't forget Equus, or one of my all time favorites The Hill.

These movies are the modern equivalent of what Cannon was making in the 80s. Maybe slightly less cheesy.
