Congo thread got me thinking.
It has to be this, right?
1. Jurassic Park
2. Andromeda Strain
3. The Great Train Robbery
4. Disclosure
5. Lost World
6. Congo
Ugh...
7. Sphere
8. 13th Warrior
9. Rising Sun
10. Timeline
I want to put Lost World lower. The book was good, but it felt like Speilberg made a "merchandising!" movie. And that last freaking King Kong ripoff that has zero to do with the novel.
Sphere is one of my favorite all time books, and the movie was so excellently cast but completely missed the mark with the plot and characters, especially Norman.
Timeline is a solid novel. Gerard Butler is a solid actor. Paul Walker is not. Neither is the movie.
I really wasn't sure where to put Rising Sun. It's not that the movie was terrible, I just felt like Connery and Snipes had zero onscreen chemistry and were badly miscast.

13th Warrior needs to be higher

I wouldn't object to that. It's another one that I wasn't sure how I felt about ranking it. It's probably my least favorite novel of his. And I've read Beowulf too.

13th Warrior is awesome... Gets better the more you watch it... Nothing can beat badass Vikings.

It's sad that Timeline was one of the most intriguing novels he wrote but turned into a garbage movie.

Andromeda Strain will always by my #1. I probably liked Timeline better than you did, but hard to figure out where to slot it.
Honestly, those are the only 2 I read the book AND saw the film. The rest was either (typically the film) or neither (specifically, Disclosure, 13th Warrior and Sphere).
I'm a history nut - I think it's better than solid - it's not as good as Andromeda Strain, but Andromeda Strain is just that good. I would put it (Timeline) ahead of Rising Sun, because that film was terrible to me.

4. Disclosure
Jesus Christ.
I read the book just to see after everyone says it was dogshite.
It's amazing once you're a name like a writer, football coach. Politician, director.
Disclosure was Showgirls-esque and the book wasn't much better.

Congo and Timeline are in a tie, wherever they are on the list.

Absolutely adored the novel Sphere. And I agree the movie adaptation was well cast, but that movie was hot garbage

Agreed, I'd say that's his best book and the best movie adaptation.
I'd put Andromeda Strain a close second.

Lost World the movie was a complete shitshow.
The book was so much better.

Timeline, Sphere, and Congo were all incredible books turned into meh movies. I guess Congo was the best of those movies.

I really like Lost World up until they turned it into King Kong.
