Question about Daredevil for those familiar with the comic (spoilers)

I've made it through 10 episodes so far and absolutely love the show. It really is fantastic.
I think D'onofrio is an incredible actor and he has the look and chops to pull off a crime lord. However, he seems very reserved except for when he decapitates the Russian, his interaction with Madame Gao when he flips the table, and his encounter with Daredevil. In some cases he almost seems vulnerable. I guess before watching the show I expected much more of a "villain," but D'onofrio offers a much more complicated, nuanced and sometimes even sympathetic character.
Is this how Kingpin is portrayed in the comics? I assume we might see him become more evil since this is an origin story.

I'm curious about this as well, or is the comic book Kingpin closer to Michael Clarke Duncan's version?

Depends who's writing the character, but for the most part, yes.

i feel for the most part no. the show did a great job of making him more of a person and well rounded character. i always find him really one note in the comics and pretty boring. the show really evolved and elevated him for me. especially the more sentimental side. hes way more stoic in the comics.

I think one of the things they nailed ( from when I read DD) was the relationship and love he has for his "wife" Vanessa......they also nailed the brutal physical manner in which he rages out against someone. But I also think the writers are bringing the character along and he will continue to grow in power and control

Previously, no. But there's been a shift in the last decade to humanize Kingpin and make him a more interesting person. I think the show is consistent with the more recent take on Kingpin.

To me, the show version is a good bit different from the comics version. In the show he seemed more "mentally damaged" if you will than what he was in the comics. The show version almost had to be babied, the comics version was just a hard nosed crime lord.

I'm with you. I thought he was a horrible actor. It all made sense when I realized he was the Roach from Men in Black.
