Is it fact or just assumed from Prometheus that the space ship that is seen in Prometheus, and in the first Alien movie belong to the engineers? Or is the one seen in Alien flown around by the Xenomorphs? Are they even capable of that?

No I don't think the aliens are capable of space flight

It's supposed to have been flown by the engineers, but Prometheus makes little sense.

I remember the first half of that movie being amazing, but then it devolved into complete crap. I'd like to give it a re-watch someday though. It may fair better once we have more of an idea where the film fits in the Alien mythos.

They look the same both interior and exterior, and the suit and chair are the same, so I think it's a safe assumption. There's no direct connection, though.

The idea is that both human life and the xenomorph life is a product of the engineers. Hence the name "the engineers." That goop stuff is some sort of super evolution material that jump starts life and accelerated evolution. This is what is happening at the beginning of Prometheus when he drinks the stuff and drops it into the water thus jump starting the evolution of humans.

The xenomorphs are similarly created by the engineers. There is this whole theme of the Aliens series of the xenomorphs being this incredibly evolved super organism. This is an attempt to give them an origin, and then relate that also to an origin for humanity. This is why there are the engineers at both locations, both in the original Alien and Prometheus. There is also the implication that the Engineers were destroyed by their own creation, but there is less known about this.

This is all how it appears to me.

The space jockey and the ship look exactly the same in Prometheus and Alien. Except the movies take place on different planets and the Xenomorphs look a little different. That, along with the really stupid characters and the fact that the plot of the whole movie was given away online, are what ticked me off so much about Prometheus. They didn't just do a direct prequel, it was some sort of frustrating off-kilter thing.

The concept and overall idea of the story is pretty cool in my opinion, but the movie itself is just very poorly executed and explained. The story is very choppy, and how the line of events unfold just doesn't make sense or flow naturally. It's just a line of events that unfold because it takes us to the end point and not because it makes sense for them to unfold like that.

SEE!!! The brilliant scientists who cannot read a map that their high tech drone has created!

FEEL!!! Their fear of the unknown world that could be filled with all kinds of disease deadly to man!

BE LIKE WTF?!?! When they suddenly decide to play with the giant vagina worms swimming in the alien water....

The ship in Alien was flown by an engineer, but we don't know exactly how long it has been there. It could have been crashed there after the events shown in the hologram in the temple during Prometheus or years before that even took place. There was a beacon from the ship telling others to avoid the planet, so it's safe to say the other engineers didn't bother coming to rescue the pilot.

As far as the aliens being able to pilot the ship, no way. But, they seem to be able to operate elevators.

I get all that. I was just curious if the spaceship in Alien, was being flown around by the xenomorphs because they are intelligent. Or if it was just another Engineer spacecraft that got over run just like the one in Prometheus.

There is also the fact that the engineers then planned to send another ship with more of the black goo to earth. Had they planned this all along? Was this just the next step in creating xenomorphs as their goal? Was this in response to a real or perceived threat by humanity? Do engineers view xenomorphs as a tool, an achievement, or worship them as a sort of diety? Prometheus raised these and other questions but didn't really answer them. Hopefully there will be more light shed on these questions in the next movie.

I thought the engineers created the humans first and then created the aliens to wipe out the human race when they became disenchanted w/ the way the species was evolving. the whole thing sounds like a rip off of At The Mountains Of Madness anyway.
