I'm excited about this movie but I don't expect it to be the sci-fi movie of the decade or even the year. That hope and expectation goes to Gravity and it is my pick to be the next face melting sci-fi worthy of Kubrick's praise. I read that it opens with a single 16-minute take. JIMP.

delayed to 2013.

Is it too scary?

too scary? hmm, I'm not sure what your threshhold is, but it's not excessively gory and doesn't aim to constantly play "gotcha!" on the audience

the horror aspects were my favorite parts. It's very much on par with the level of violence and uncomfortable tension as Alien(s). If you're cool with those movies then you'll know exactly what to expect.

eta: Obama loved it fwiw

I had a feeling the film would be a disappointment. Ridley Scott still makes films that are beautiful to look at, but he seems to have lost that magic that made him the game changing director of Alien and Blade Runner.

He had a a nice little run early last decade with Gladiator and Black Hawk Down, but almost everything he's done since then has been disappointing. Kingdom of Heaven put me to sleep.

The director's cut version of this movie is pretty awesome.

But, there are parts that are breathlessly badass. The elements of horror and suspense are all particularly great. You will squirm and be terrified.

I thought this movie was a perfect "same universe" but not a prequel. I truly enjoyed this movie, and so did my wife, and she knows nothing about Alien(s), while I am an Alien(s) geek.

Yes. Can't wait for the sequel.

Many have said this was a movie about characters just doing random things/ the characters had no purpose. I thought it was quite clear what the individuals were pursing. Also, thought this film did a good job of capturing the Alien suspense, while still having some of the Aliens action.
