This part didn't make much sense. The "aunt" said that she had forgotten about the maze guy until she read about him in the paper, meaning he had been kidnapped by them before.

Yeah I think he had been kidnapped by them before and then drugged so bad he forgot who he was and what not and then later in life he read the "invisible man" and figured he was one of the kids who this happened to. He then tried to follow up with the kidnappings for it to appear that the kids were dead and not alive being drugged up.
It shows he had pretty much no relation to the actual crime and that he just followed it to make it appear as if the kids were dead... Kind of random to throw him in the movie unless my thoughts on him are way off.

If he was kidnapped & drugged, why didn't they kill him? I do t get it.

I like to think he found him but agree it was like Inception. What was the thing about the snakes. I thought the *aunt* said her husband hated them so did Taylor have them to spite him? That was kind of confusing.

They reveal during the police processing his house that Taylor was kidnapped as a child and he escaped. Loki said Taylor was drugged, couldn't remember much, and they never caught the abductor.
Loki was trying to reason out loud if Taylor was a copycat or the real suspect.

saw this last night,
im thinking snake guy was just another kid who they kidnapped at some point and escaped.
