Variety magazine reports that Radegund, directed by Terrence Malick, has been sold to UGC France, one of the country’s largest distributors, and that it could be released this year. Variety describes this as a “key” sale, adding that “buyer interest appears large”.
The film will be released this year or next.
Malick, a cult filmmaker known for Tree of Life and The Thin Red Line, has been praised for his “profoundly Christian vision”. But this is his first film to deal so explicitly with religious themes.
Blessed Franz Jägerstätter was a Catholic farmer in Austria. He felt it was impossible to be “both a Nazi and a Catholic”. When conscripted into the army, he refused to fight, and asked to serve as a paramedic. He was imprisoned and then beheaded.
