is an unbelievably good film. McQueen is one of my favorite actors ever and he was amazing. Hoffman was also pretty solid playing the role of Dega. The scenary was gorgeous too for a movie made in 1973. It was based on real events, which makes it even better IMO. It's probably number 2 on my list of prison movies, behind Shawshank.

Great movie, but those crazy kids today would hate it. Way too slow moving for the average Joe today.

The guy that wrote it claims it was based on his life, but in reality, it is only looooooosely based on his life.

Well, I'm only 21, but I can def. see what you mean. I think it was around 2 1/2 hours long, but it surely didn't feel that long and I did not want it to end.

I was planning on checking the book out after watching the little behind the scenes feature that showed the real life Papillon. I can believe that it was loosely based on his life, b/c I found myself thinking, "damn, did that really happen to this guy?" at certain parts in the movie.

One of my favorites and very underrated. And yes, I believe the long running time has turned off some potential viewers.
