Anyone else watching this? It's like a cross between 13 Reasons Why and The Hunger Games.
We're halfway through and it's been really interesting. I won't talk any spoilers yet.

Is it just one season so far?

So far, but I don't think it's spoilery to say that they set it up for subsequent seasons, since it's each year's graduating seniors from the local HS who participate in potentially dangerous competition to win a large cash pot in the hopes of getting out of this one stop light, Texas hole.

I had no idea that Ray is Jack Nicholsons son.

That explains the face. It totally tracks, now.
Ray's character is an interesting one. He's unbelievably poetic at times for a backwoods dirtbag with zero prospects.
My largest complaint with the series is that there are too many characters to follow at first. You know that feeling you get when you watched Game of Thrones the first time? (Assuming you didn't read the books).
The writing almost assumes you already know who half of these kids/townsfolk are, and there's little to no exposition as to why you should remember a lot of them when they're first introduced. There's some similar-looking actors/characters, too which is a pet peeve of mine. It muddies the water of the story when you can't remember who's who.

me trying to decide if this is a selling point or not

Well, in retrospect it's probably closer to 13RW & Nerve.

I'll give it a shot.
If it sucks, I'm blaming you though.

It's not a half-assed retread of a previously aired series, so they've got that going for them.

I enjoyed it ok. It just irritated me that they got a bunch of almost-30 year olds to play high school graduates/seniors. I mean, I get that you want some established actors, but can't you find a cast that actually look young for their ages?
Jack Nicholson looks damn near 40 and he's supposed to be playing an 18 yr old?
Other than that, was an okay story... decent performances, and very easy to watch.

In episode one the main girl loses thousands of dollars from her mom that she kept in a shoebox under her bed then a few scenes later says she only has $17 in her savings account.
Bitch, if you have a savings account, why did you keep money in a shoe box around your trailer trash mom?

I think she was meaning "to my name" when she said that about the savings account.
Nancy McKeon & Moira Kelly (The Cutting Edge) have small roles in this, as well. Kelly looks like hell.

It was ok. Didn't love it, didn't hate it.
One thing that kind of annoys me with shows these days is the full court press on diversity for diversity's sake. This is supposed to be a small hicksville town in Texas, where you have black, white, asian, and make up wearing indian (feathers, not dot) dude all hanging out and palling around together. In a real life situation, I doubt small hickville Texas is that diverse to beging with, and to the extent it is, I would guess the high school kids would be self segregated to a large degree. It's like that with all the shows they make today. If there's a group of 4 friends, I guarantee there will be at least 1 black, 1 white and 1 asian in the group and at least 1 of them will be gay, regardless of whether it has anything to do with the story line or not. I just find the forced diversity for diversity sake a bit ridiculous these days, but these are the times we're living in.

No doubt. Were The Last Supper painted today, it would look like a box of Crayolas.

It’s like they intentionally picked the ugliest actors/actresses for this one

Heather was a little bit sexy when she got all dolled up for the Players Ball, but otherwise I agree with you completely. Summer, the girl MC for panic, was kind of cute

watching it now, not sure if I like it yet or not.

It's certainly compelling enough to get you to the end, IMO. Not all series can make that claim.
