Boooooooooooooooooooooo

quote:

According to a report from Hollywood Reporter, Pacific Rim‘s sequel has been “halted indefinitely and will be pushed back (if it gets made at all).” So much for those rumors of a crossover between Pacific Rim and the latter-day Godzilla films. Sounds like the only movie monster mash-up in the works will pan out between Godzilla and King Kong in Kong: Skull Island.

But why? Disagreements between Universal and Legendary Pictures, mostly based on the failure of the films Blackhat and Seventh Son. Even though Pacific Rim did well overseas, particularly in China, it was quite costly to make and the sequel doesn’t feel enough like a sure thing to sway its potential backers. In other words, the failure of two unrelated films has tightened the fists of the film’s studios, which is a damn shame, and also a great example of how opaque and random Hollywood’s funding structures seem at times.

I don't know what seventh son was, but how in the hell could they not see Black Hat was going to be a total flop?

One of the worst movies of last year, that's what.

Yeah. Universal seems to expect Legendary to make giant blockbusters....all the while halting the one property that actually could do that. I do want to watch Blackhat, but there was no marketing for that film. None.

there was some marketing. But Hemsworth as a super hacker that also kicks arse?

Did they find that script in a storage unit in a pile of other projects they passed on in the late 90s?

That sucks.

They're morons. I'm not a big fan of obligatory sequels, but this is the kind of movie you do a sequel to. The domestic box office would be a lot better this time because of the first one's creeping popularity. shite, even the Honest Trailer guys liked it.

I saw the bad news about this yesterday. Sucks because I love Pacific Rim. Despite it's flaws every time I see it on TV I can't help but sit down and watch it over and over again.

I don't know what they expect to accomplish with crossing over Pacific Rim or King Kong with latter-day Godzilla.

Godzilla is 90 feet taller than Gypsy Danger and 325 feet taller than King Kong.

This would be more absurd than Batman beating Superman.

The first one was a piece of crap. I could not understand why they wanted to make another.

I'm okay with that, because the first one wasn't very good.

And I know the downvotes will come in because this board seems to LOVE Pacific Rim, but I just didn't think it was very good at all (and thought some of it was downright stupid).

And I've even said on here before that I'd watch a sequel if they made one to it.

Godzilla vs. King Kong has been done before, back in the 60s. No big deal to shift sizes of one or the other...basically would have to upscale Kong like they did then to bring him into Godzilla's world.

I for one don't like the idea of "Pacific Rim" and Godzilla together. The newest Godzilla film was better than the 1998 try at it, but I still prefer the Japanese, man-in-a-rubber-suit monster battles over CGI. Plenty enough monsters in the TOHO catalog to be used rather than needing "Pacific Rim" universe stuff.
