I've never even seen Oldboy, and can only imagine what main stream Hollywood, Will Smith, and Speilberg would have done with it. Would have been totally changed for the worse in my opinion. I have nothing against Smith/Spielberg, in fact I like them, but I wouldn't want to see what they did to a movie like Oldboy.

When I saw this movie there is no way I could see Will Smith doing this movie without MAJOR changes to the main plot.

The plot just doesn't lend itself to a Will Smith/Speilberg kind of movie.

It wasn't an Oldboy "remake" per say. It was going to be based on the story of Oldboy. Story could be the same, script completely different.
