Books where the girl is shy but powerful on the inside and just waiting to release her full potential. Some powerful and quite dickish, but somewhat nice guy helps unleash her inner power. He turns her into the strong powerful woman she knows she is, but is too afraid to become on her own... And definitely fricks her along the way.

Seems to be the new trend...

True blood
Twilight series
Hunger game series
50 shades of grey series
Divergent series

My exact first thought as well.

ETA:
I haven't read or seen anything else on the list.

The Hunger Games books are legitimately solid books though. The movies did not do the main themes justice. The movies arent terrible, but they left some important stuff out.

The only one of those series that I'm even remotely familiar with is The Hunger Games and I know that what you described about a woman's potential being released by a male in no way described what happens in the Hunger Games.

Better examples of this are all John Green books

Don't forget Buffy, if we're counting TV.

No, the new trend is small women beating up much larger men who have as much training as they do.

That happens all the time in real life.

You must of not read the last one. It's garbage. The first two were decent, but she comes completely off the rails in the last one when she isn't working with Battle Royale/Running Man material. The first movie based on the last book has done a decent job of cleaning it up so far.
