I preordered it last year and it just shipped. As this story was considered by Tolkien to be the heart of his mythological world, and this book is made from his own notes, I am excited. Children of Hurin turned out great and I have high hopes for this one.

George RR Martin should be ashamed. A dead man is publishing at a faster pace than he is.

Is this the same beren and luthien story that is contained within the silmarillion?

Yes. Just more fleshed out into novel form.

So even if I have a copy of the silmarillion, this new book offers more to the story? I wouldn't be buying something I already have?

That was why I was hesitant to pre-order this thing. I assumed I was re-buying pages that are already in the silmarillion, which I have a copy of.

We will see, but I can tell you that Children of Hurin the book was a greatly expanded version of the tale in the silmarillion. It used other unpublished notes to fill out the story and the end result was marvelous. This was made using the same process.

Maybe Melisandre brought him back to life.
