New Oscar category coming to next year's Academy Awards - Best Casting

I feel like this is long overdue. When the casting of a movie is so solid, casting directors should get rewarded for their accomplishment of bringing said actors together.

Yeah I'm good with this category as long as there aren't woke minimums tacked onto it.
Although honestly they can do that too I guess since giving a shite about the Academy Awards is just about the last thing on my list to care about.

So the next casting director that swaps out the white dude lead for a black chick, casts some twink on its own personal trans-unicorn journey, and an actual gay hobbit in supporting roles, will win a gold statue. I can't wait for the acceptance speech.

IMO, casting is VASTLY more relevant than "how good is the acting?", as my main contention has always been that essentially it's just table stakes to be a good actor in major films.
The shorthand version is: sure, Christopher Walken is a good/great actor. That's literally just irrelevant as to why or why not he wasn't cast as the lead in Cast Away or A River Runs Through It.

That's literally what this is for.
It's going to go to the person who "subverts expectations," via sex, trans-status, ethnicity, etc. Guaranteed. There is no other reason for this award.
You think they would give it to someone like casting DDL as Daniel Plainview? I would also guarantee you don't give to Chadwick Boseman for Black Panther.
You would however give this to a "modern take" on Snow White or a "modern take" on Jack Sparrow, etc.
