Idk why, but I can just never get into Captain America.

Compared to the rest of the superheroes he's such a useless weakling.

i was never a big fan of his comic books growing up, but i love how they have adapted him to the movies not only in Avengers, but his own films as well.

Chris Evans has really impressed me with his portrayal of Cap.

for me its like Thor and even Iron Man - I was never into those books at all, but love how they adapted to the screen and meshed for Avengers.

Marvel has found the right way to adapt their books to film - hell I loved Blade, and felt they did pretty good with those as well as I really liked Thomas Jane as Punisher. i think anyone other than Travolta as the villain would have been better.

I don't know how I feel about Papa Doc being a super hero sidekick. Also, who is the actor playing the villain in the mask?

You mean like Tony Stark who is just a normal human without the IM suit. Or maybe like Black Widow and Hawkeye. Who have no super human powers in the Avengers/Marvel movies other than they can shoot really good and fight. They are actually more weak. At least CA has super human abilities.

quote:

Standing Up To Death – In “Infinity Gauntlet,” mad space-villain Thanos gathered the Infinity Gems and became omnipotent. Then he killed half the universe as a gesture of love to the embodiment of Death. An army of super-heroes took the fight to him and failed miserable. Thanos killed damn near all of them. Cap was left standing, walks right up to Thanos

Captain America: "As long as one man stands against you Thanos, you'll never be able to claim victory.
Thanos: "Noble sentiments from one who is about to die.

Mind you, Thanos is a demi-god (called an Immortal), More powerful than Thor and most of Marvel's heroes.

Thor has also said on multiple occasions something to the effect of:

"I won't follow any Earthling/mortal/human into battle. But I will follow Steve Rogers."

Also in the JLA and Avengers cross-over, I believe they are fighting some omnipotent thing looking for the creators/creation of universes.

They need one person to lead the final battle...

Superman tells everyone to follow Captain America.

Evans has done a great job as Cap.

I enjoyed CA and, essentially, Avengers is as much about Cap as it is about Stark.

Winter Soldier looks legit.

That quote above about not moving? Yeah that's when Cap goes against half the Marvel heroes, lead by Iron Man himself, about registering and monitoring all existing super-powered Earth residents.

And Batman is the goody goody, not killing anyone...

So does Thanos not kill CA when he bucked up to him?

They have a fight, Captain America gets some hits in, but it doesn't last too long and Thanos wins. But he did the same to Thor and the rest (he actually straight up demolished Thor in an instant). He then proceeds to kill every single celestial being in the universe, Galactus included. Fast-forward to Thanos actually becoming the universe itself and another being takes the gauntlet away...

Adam Warlock and the Surfer eventually beat him if I remember correctly.

spot on Freauxzen....the Infinity line was always a good read.

Thanos was a fav of mine, and I "hope" when he makes the true appearance it is nothing short of epic - cause he deserves nothing less.

I said this in the MoS thread just to mention the difference in approach, but I'll say it here too...

The real strength in this Marvel Film Universe is going to be in their ability to bring comics to life in as CINEMATIC a way as possible.

What this means is they have to make everything feel both real and fantastical all at the same time. They've done a fantastic job so far- Iron Man's high tech world, Thor's Asgard, Cap and the political/military perspective -- but I think the real test is...

Guardians of the Galaxy. If they can figure out a way to make something so wacky FIT, and be cinematically aligned to their Universe, there's almost no limit to what they can do. If they can make GoG feel right, they pretty much have carte blanche to do whatever they want.

And they've been nothing but successful so far. I don't think a bad GoG slows them down, but I think a good Guardians movie just gives them an insurmountable advantage over DC in the film arena.

And A good GoG movie bodes VERY well for a complete Thanos story line that makes sense in this universe. The potential for that story is awesome and Guardians will really set the stage or how epic it can get.

I cannot agree and upvote what you said more.

the more I read about GoG, the more i'm excited to see it.

i think Marvel kinda took a pretty big risk in doing the Thanos Cameo, because if they can't get a good tie in and story for Thanos, then they will have really hurt themselves.

I do not think they can afford to have another Fiasco situation like the Mandarin.

while I thought the twist, for what it was was good, I also feel they did a HUGE disservice to the character itself.

they had a Portrayal of the mandarin that was powerful and violent. i wish it would have been left that way.

Thanos has to be done as a cruel and manipulative villan - anything less will cause Marvel to be burned to the ground.

Agree about the mandarin.

What Cap 2 looks to do is set the stage for how the world, how the politicians and military respond to the new kind of Earth they are inhabiting. Which is a good place for Cap to be, I think that's why it works so well.

We'll get Age of Ultron, and I think Avenbers 3 will close up after Phase 4-ish, and bring in Thanos (6 or 7 years down the line).

You can do the IG story in 3 movies a GoG sequel if it's good, or even a Doc Strange (it's not cannon but it would work), a Thor movie and Avengers 3. You wrap it up, have Thanos destroy the universe, then have Warlock bring it back....end it there...

Reboot everyone and go to the Civil War story and cast new people in the major roles.

The only sad part of that is the world we have now is just about PERFECT for Civil War with Evans and RDJ leading the way. RDJ would make a brilliant politician and Evans doesn't fold when on screen with him.

But I'd like to see Marvel either embrace different actors in roles soon, OR, build towards a massive reset and recast at once.

Spoilers...

It's Sebastian Stan. He plays/played The Mad Hatter on Once Upon a Time. Solid actor. He was Bucky Barnes in the first film.
