The Animated Series - not "canon" but an official product, including the TOS cast members providing the voices of their characters. It was ripping good fun when I was a kid.

when the Abrams reboots run their course where do they go? A TNG reboot with slightly different Picard etc (with new actors) that shows the butterfly effect on Star Wars based on Nero screwing with the timeline?

After all Into Darkness shows a much more dark and militant Federation. Could a Abramsverse TNG invoke a war say against the Cardassians or even Nero that involves a "Villain protagonist" Federation? Maybe something even anti Borg Nazi like?

All of the TNG movies were bad, even the Borg one. TNG movies were a money grab from paramount, all of them simply extended TV episodes that I had to pay to watch.

Disagree. First Contact was solid and was probably the best TNG movie. It had a solid supporting cast (James Cromwell, Alfre Woodard, Alice Krige as the Queen) and good plot.

Generations was propped up by the good supporting cast as well with Shatner and Malcolm McDowell. Plus, they did a good job destroying the Enterprise D.

Insurrection was very forgettable. Nemesis...the plot was ridiculous, for some reason I didn't like the Janeway cameo, but the final battle scene had its good moments. It wasn't a good ending for that cast.

You aren't going to do Borg without some combination of Janeway or Picard.

I'm a fan and I enjoy every legitimate Star Trek movie, including TMP

I know I'm in the minority, but this is one of my favorite movies, let alone Star Trek movies. It's the essence of what Star Trek was about: Exploration. First Contact. The Unknown. I enjoyed the first season and a half of Enterprise because they focused on this.

I like Khan, and First Contact. But IMO, Star Trek is at its best when they dont focus on war.

You are absolutely right that the material lends itself to an episodic format. TNG struck a wonderful balance between space exploration episodes, strange anomaly episodes, and action episodes. Theres nothing wrong with having an episode where they fight the Borg, or a space battle.

I thought Star Trek 6 was excellent, with the combination of interstellar politics, revenge, racism, combined with a "whodoneit?" murder investigation.

The reboot is brilliant. Nero's arrival explains not only the tech advances when compared to TOS, but also the focus on militarization of Starfleet. Abrams first movie was great and seemed to satisfy both old fans and garner new fans. I loved Into Darkness, including the villain. It also allowed Abrams to address the militarization, deal with it, and send the crew off on a 5 year mission.

I really hope the next episode has some sort of Vger for the crew to combat (but hopefully not a straight up remake like Into Darkness. Get creative, JJ).

See my suggesting above about going dark with the future of militarization? Like some type of xenophobia? Perhaps the humans are bastards type. Maybe the Klingons of the post Nero era are isolationist, maybe even religious pacifists. Perhaps Starfleet is the Nazis and Klingons, Cardassions, or even the Borg are the space Jews. If its the Borg you could make the integrated starfleet the "organic" nazis.

The last two Next Generation films were just plain bad. The only one of that cast that I actually like is First Contact.

I too thought First Contact was great.

People criticize it for making Picard out to be a Rambo type hero. But frick that noise. He had been assimilated by the Borg and was trapped in the past with them about to take over Earth and there was no defense capable to stopping it.

Yeah, he pulled out a machine gun and it worked on a holodeck, but you know what? The Borg needed some bullet holes.

Like a lot of movies, having a phenomenal score kicks it up a few notches in my book.

And whoever made that tiered ranking above is on some serious shite. Lay off the hard stuff.

I liked First Contact.

Nemesis was horrible . . . on par with the train wreck that is Star Trek 5 - the one Shatner directed. The one with Spock's snake-salesman brother and the three leads singing "row, row, row your boat" and eating beans with whiskey.
