In May 2014, Netflix began to raise the price of its standard streaming plan for new subscribers, first to $8.99 a month, then to $9.99 a month last October. Existing subscribers, however, were grandfathered in at $7.99 a month for the two-stream, "HD" quality plan.

But those days will soon be over.

Next month, these grandfathered customers will be moved up to $9.99 for the standard plan. Analysts at UBS have estimated that this change will affect about 37% of US subscribers, or 17 million people.

I'm sure this news will create lots of complaints, but considering all the content you get it's still a good deal, and if the content doesn't appeal to you for the price, don't subscribe.

At first when I saw the headline I thought fireworks were incoming and they were going to raise it to something way high, but I mean hell the entire yearly difference is basically equivalent to going out to dinner. Who cares.

I couldn't care less.
I don't see how they are making all the much money with the amount of original content they've been putting out lately for $7.99 a customer anyway.

HBO charges $15.99 a month and Netflix has a shite more stuff to watch, and original content than HBO?

As long as this keeps their original content stuff top shelf, I'm good with it

I don't think my friend Joe will care about the extra $24. He does ok for himself.

Yeah $24 doesn't matter, but eventually the "cable cutters" will be priced out of being able to bum off others. They will have to start paying their weight.

You can be a cable cutter and suscribe to netflix. Netflix puts out better shows than 99% of stations too.

Don't tell Netflix this, but I'd easily pay the the yearly difference every month for their service.
